We're delighted that you've decided to make Noah's Landing part of your classroom. A visit from or to Noah's Landing is a great way to infuse interactivity into your science curriculum. We want to be sure your students have the best experience possible so we've developed a list of tips for students and teachers before your visit.
Field Trips
Field trips to Noah's Landing are a great opportunity to see a diverse group of animals face-to-face. During your tour, you'll have a chance to touch, feed and see a variety of animals. To ensure the safety of our guests, we've prepared a
Before You Go printout that includes tips for students. We recommend printing or e-mailing this document to parents before your trip. (For economy, we've organized three sheets per page.)
We also recommend the following guidelines for all visitors:
- During your tour, you will be walking outside. Please wear close-toe shoes and appropriate clothing for the weather.
- We recommend sunscreen and insect repellent.
- Consider bringing an extra bottle of water on hot days.
- We do have restroom facilities, picnic tables, and trash cans so you can have a picnic lunch. If you decide not to eat on site, we recommend a snack or water break to help divide the tour.
- We ask that groups bring carrots to feed our large animals. Carrot sticks should be four inches or shorter and thinly sliced.
- Each class will have a tour guide that will lead the group through the facility. However, we do ask for the parents' help to ensure children are listening and behaving. It's often a good idea to talk to parents beforehand about how they can help you and the guide.
- Our animals are always ready for their close up! Kids can bring a camera or video camera to capture their day.
- We do ask that guests refrain from smoking within 15 feet of any animal enclosure.
- Visit our Classroom Ideas section to learn about ways to extend learning before and after your visit.
Mobile Nature Center
When the mobile nature center rolls into your school, fun and learning follow! To make sure your classroom is ready, we've prepared the following guidelines. You can also read and print our
Classroom Rules.
- Visit the Classroom Ideas section to learn how to extend the lesson beyond your classroom program.
- The Mobile Nature Center uses live animals in its program. Make sure your classroom is prepared. Clear a large space at the front of the room for the guide to stand and handle the animal.
- Ensure the classroom is quiet and respectful when the animals enter the room.
- Noah's Landing will bring hand sanitizer for all students. We do ask, however, that all students wash their hands before the program ends and that extra health precautions are taken before the students eat.
- No food or drink is allowed in the room when the program begins.
